Beginning Your Pink Ribbon Journey, sponsored by Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition,
Expands to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Cancer Center
November 19, 2009—Wilmington, DE – Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. (DBCC) has expanded its Beginning Your Pink Ribbon Journey, a program for women newly-diagnosed with breast cancer, by partnering with Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Cancer Center in Seaford. The free, monthly program is offered at the Cancer Center located at 801 Middleford Rd, Seaford, the third Thursday of each month from 3:00-4:00PM beginning Thursday, December 17. “We’re excited and grateful to be working with Nanticoke in bringing this program to even more women in Delaware,” says Lois Wilkinson, DBCC Special Projects Manager, who currently helps to facilitate the program at Bayhealth. “The support and resources this program provides newly-diagnosed women is invaluable as they begin their breast cancer journey.”
The program is facilitated by Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Cancer Center professional staff - including Terri A. Clifton, MS, NCC, Cancer Care Coordinator; Mary Brown, RN, DSN, Manager Cancer Care Center; and Wendy Polk, Nutritionist – with assistance from Wilkinson. Together, they answer questions, help to calm fears, and share information about resources that are available at Nanticoke, through DBCC, and through other organizations within the local community.
Of particular value to newly-diagnosed women is DBCC’s Peer Mentor Program through which they are paired with a long-term survivor for one-on-one support; and DBCC’s survivor programs and social events enable them to meet and spend time with other survivors for support and reassurance that they’re not alone and that there is life after a breast cancer diagnosis.

DBCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a state-wide organization with offices in Dover, Lewes and Wilmington. The mission of the agency is to empower our community by raising awareness of breast health issues through outreach, education and support services, in order to facilitate the early detection and treatment of breast cancer. The vision of the agency is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
DBCC reaches diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection, and helps to facilitate free or reduced-cost care and screening mammograms for women with low incomes or with little or no insurance.
